Some days, it might feel like you’re never going to be able to turn things around, but your addiction doesn’t have to define you. Here are some truly successful people who were able to overcome some serious addictions to inspire you and remind you that you can do anything.
Robert Downey Jr.
What if we told you that there was a time when Iron Man was not given any role because he was considered a liability? Robert Downey Jr’s career started off strong in the 90s but lost it all to drugs. He was arrested many times on various drug charges and was heavily addicted to marijuana, cocaine, and heroin.
He went to rehab many times but kept on relapsing until he finally kicked the habit. Lucky for us, he has provided us with some incredible roles since then.
Demi Lovato
Singer and actress Demi Lovato has battled with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as self-harm and eating disorders. She entered treatment for her addictions in 2010 and has been sober ever since. She’s also created some incredible music since then.
Jennifer Aniston
Throughout the filming of the popular tv series Friends, Jennifer Aniston fought addictions to cigarettes and caffeine. She was a chain smoker but took an intense detox in 2007 to give it up. Now she uses exercise and yoga to stay clean and free of nicotine.
Oprah Winfrey
The iconic Oprah admitted to doing crack cocaine during her childhood when she was abused. Luckily, she was able to overcome her trials and build a successful career, inspiring millions.
Jon Stewart
The famous host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, struggled with a smoking addiction from the time he was 15. But since 2000, he has been completely smoke-free.
Daniel Radcliffe
While filming some of the “Harry Potter” films, Daniel Radcliffe dealt with a serious alcohol addiction. Thankfully, he has overcome his habit and gone on to make some incredible films.
